Bear Pride Flag 90 x 150 cm
Woof! Bear this flag with pride! The Bear Pride Flag, also known as the International Bear Brotherhood Flag, was created to represent the bear subculture within the LGBTQ community. Bears are known as the larger, hairier men of gay and queer culture, but its definition has now expanded to include folks of different genders and body types.
Be a proud bear with this large, light yet sturdy Bear Pride Flag! Trademarked in 1995, the colours used in the design of the flag are meant to represent the furs of animal bears around the world. Contrary to popular belief, they do not refer to human skin colours. Dark brown, orange/rust, golden yellow, tan, white, grey and black. The layout of stripes with the bear paw at the corner is similar to, and likely inspired by, the combination of the Leather Pride Flag and Pride Flag designs.
The idea behind the bear identity, which started back in the 1980s, was to create a subgroup for men who felt marginalized from the broader gay community, which had typically celebrated the lean, hairless body type. Though ideal body types have barely changed, the bear group has evolved to be a larger, inclusive group that celebrates all body types.
The flag is 90 cm tall by 150 cm long, digitally printed in one piece on polyester, with a stable side edge and two eyelets for fastening.
